Mercury Marine's Capitol Engineering earns Chairman's Safety Award

Capitol Engineering, a division of Mercury Marine has been named a Chairman’s Safety Award site while celebrating five years without a lost time incident.

Safety is one of the core pillars of sustainability at Mercury Marine as highlighted in its most recent sustainability report.

"Mercury has operations around the world that are achieving and sustaining excellence in safety,” said Andres Gonzalez, Mercury Marine vice president of human resources. “Our Brookfield plant is a great example of safety as an integral part of our operations and the well-being of our employees.

Executives from Mercury Marine joined employees in Brookfield to celebrate and honor their commitment to safety. Chris Drees, Mercury Marine vice president of global operations was on hand as the plant learned that they would be receiving the Chairman’s Safety Award for the first time.

“Our team at Capitol Engineering has made safety a part of everything they do and their success reflects a commitment to excellence, resulting in best-in-class performance,” said Drees.

The plant operates two shifts, with nearly 60 hourly and engineering support personnel designing and developing world-class tool and die components.

The Brookfield plant was also praised for its successful apprenticeship program, helping employees develop skills needed for ongoing success.

This is Mercury’s second major safety award for 2018 as Mercury Marine Canada reported one-million hours of no lost time injury earlier this year. Milton, which is Mercury’s headquarters in Canada, has been injury-free since 2010.
