On The Tidal Potomac

« on: November 16, 2008, 12:31:49 PM »

Usually Shimano over greases their reel interiors, but after using my new 200E a few times I decided to open it up and clean it the way I like it and found the gears bone dry.  The bearing are hard to determine if they have been oiled, so I cleaned them and lubed them with a drop of Yellow Rocket Fuel.  This is highly unusual for Shimano.  The anti-reverse/clutch bearing had been lubed properly.

By the way, the Dartanium drag washers were also dry, but I checked with Shimano and the rep said that although the reels are assembled with dry washers, they do recommend using drag grease on Dartanium drag washers.
