Martin Truex, Jr. pilots the No. 78 Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats Toyota to seventh win this season
Martin Truex, Jr. was back on tried-and-true ground at the Kansas Speedway today having won the spring race there this year. Truex, driver of the No. 78 Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats Toyota Camry, overcame a restart violation penalty and an unscheduled pit stop for a loose wheel to conquer the 1.5-mile tri-oval in Kansas City to win the Hollywood Casino 400. This was his second win at the track this year and his second win of the playoff rounds. With seven wins total this season, he remains number one in driver points with 4,069.
After winning the first race of the Round of 12 at Charlotte two weeks ago, Truex had already earned a spot in the third round of the playoffs. Prior to today’s win, he not only led the NASCAR Cup Series in wins this season at six, he also led in stage wins (19), playoff bonus points (64) and laps led (1,977).
The third and final playoff series, the Round of 8, begins at NASCAR’s shortest track, the .526-mile “paperclip” track in Martinsville, Virginia, Sunday, Oct. 29.
