Mercury Marine prepares for American Boating Congress with new video on E15
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (May 7, 2015) – Mercury Marine will join others in the marine industry next week for the annual American Boating Congress, where company executives will meet with politicians from key states to talk about initiatives important to and affecting the marine industry.
One of the primary topics of discussion this year is ethanol and the use of E15 in marine engines. Mercury Marine has teamed up with Wired2Fish to create another video to help educate consumers about the negative impact that E15 has on a marine engines and are hoping to convey this message during Capitol visits next week in Washington.
“It’s bad for outboards,” said Scott Glorvigen, host of Wired2Fish. “You don’t want to use it in your outboards by any means. E15 can ruin engines and void engine warranties.”
“Mercury Marine has done extensive studies about the effect of E15 on marine engines and the results continue to show that using this type of fuel can be destructive to the engine," said Martin Bass, Mercury Marine VP of global product management. “But the bigger issue is safety. Using E15 can be dangerous to the consumer if something happens to your engine.”
In addition to engine failure other issues that E15 could cause include stalling, corrosion leading to oil or fuel leaks, increased emissions, and damaged components, to name a few.
