Taking Youngsters FishingPosted: March 20th, 2013 by Bill Dance People often ask me for advice on taking youngsters fishing, and trust me, introducing youngsters to the outdoors is a big deal. Future anglers will carry on our sport’s legacy. But as for simply going and taking a young one along, well, you gotta know PATIENCE is going to be a big factor. Know up front that the fishing trip is about the kid, not you. Spend your time making sure the youngster is having a good time. When the youngster is ready to go, take them home. Short trips are best for beginners. Let them learn to love it and don’t force fishing on them. Also, always try to take a kid fishing to a place where you are relatively sure they will have some measure of success. A stocked catfish pond is an excellent place for a beginner. Also, going fishing during the bluegill spawn, when these feisty fighters are apt to hit anything placed near their spawning beds is likewise a great time to show a budding angler what fishing is all about. As always, catch one for me! |
